Boston Training and Beta Alanine

Thank you for your song suggestions.

For today’s tempo run, I decided to try beta alanine. I have taken it once before, a week or two again and could not get over the tingling! It was crazy. I talked to my dad, who takes it for weight lifting and Janae, who takes it before long runs and decided to try it again. This time, the tingling was not as intense, but I’m not sure I noticed a difference in my run.

Regardless, I had a good run.

*Do you take any special supplements to enhance your workouts?
I also take magnesium w/ calcium (for absorption) to speed recovery.

Favorite Athletes

Jill over at Finishing is Winning posted a great topic this week for her Monday Brain Exchange about favorite athletes. You are supposed to list your top 5 favorites. Jill and I have some of the same faves and of course mine are all runners.

Here it goes:

Kara Goucher

Check out her blog

Paula Radcliffe

World Record Marathon Holder

Check out my post on meeting Kara and Paula

Bart Yasso

America's Running Ambassador

I had the opportunity to meet Bart at the Philly marathon expo last year and got his book "My Life on the Run" which he signed for me and my dad.

Tera Moody

Tera is the only one I have not had the chance to meet on this list!

And of course, I have to include my dad in this.

Harold Bond

My dad is the one who got me started running in the first place and he is one of the best athletes I know.

Great topic Jill!

Meeting Paula and Kara!

This weekend I ran my first New York Road Runners Race in Central Park. You can read the race report here. It was such a fun experience!

I can technically say that I beat Paula Radcliffe in a race! Although Paula of course wasn't racing...just running for fun...and I was racing my little heart out...minor details :) Paula, who is 5 months pregnant, ran the race for fun, and finished in 44:36. Kara Goucher, who is also 5 months pregnant, and ironically due the same day as Paula, had to pull out of the race due to a back injury. Even better than "beating" Paula, was meeting both of them!

Me and Paula!

Me and Kara!

In all honesty, I was hoping to merely catch a glimpse of either of them, I can't believe I was able to meet both of them and take pictures. Kara also signed my bib :)

*Amazing*
Here are some candid pics my dad got:

So excited to be meeting her!

Talking to her fans...

Giving an interview...

Paula holds the world marathon record of 2:17:18...

Cute belly

It was such a fun day! They were both super sweet and nice and hung out talking to people, signing autographs and taking pics. I was kind of surprised they were just hanging out with everyone but that is what made it so great.

Next up, the fabulous elite women who raced the Mini...
